Why I’m starting in Westchester
Westchester is a name people use and a zip code on a label. It is not a city. There is no mayor and no city commission. The millage on a house here is collected and spent by Miami-Dade County, the school board, and a stack of districts most of us never actually open.
I don’t say that as a complaint. I say it because that is the starting file.
Data is my forte. I have spent a working life loosening balls of yarn — court systems, money systems, the kind of tables that only make sense once you already know the shop. Public data is that same job with a different owner. Miami-Dade already publishes a lot of it: the property roll, the tax visualizer, 311, the open-data hub, the checkbook. What it does not publish is the sentence that belongs after the row.
I want to write that sentence, and I want to do it in a tandem I have been carrying around for a long time. I have a mean freedom-centric streak. My family left Cuba, which is the Reader’s Digest version of why I have no patience for Communism or for the polished version that keeps showing up under friendlier names. I know that argument can be made with data. What matters, if I am honest about persuasion, is that the feeling has to come out of the numbers as a backstop. If I start with the lecture, I am only talking to people who already agree with me.
So the form I intend to keep using is simple, and I mean that in full sentences. What did they say this program would do? What does the file say it did? Who got paid, and who is still waiting? If I can delete the ideology words and a skeptical neighbor still feels something, the piece can go up. If it only works because I named a system I hate, it stays in the draft folder.
I will show the source, the date I pulled it, and the caveat. Tools help me through a messy extract. They do not get to be the witness. If I cannot point at the row, I don’t get the conclusion.
This site is the long form. X is the shorter cut. Neither one is a brochure for the firm. Next Move Solutions is the company. This is the person, and this is the map I start on. I intend to ripple out from Westchester. I am starting here because I can walk it.
